Stinging Nettle

Stinging Nettle (Urtica Dioica) is "weed" for some and an exceptional plant for others. Numerous studies revealed that nettle is a cure for hundreds of diseases.

Infusion of stinging nettle leaves is a classic spring tonic
It's a natural supply of vitamins and minerals which balances the body's defense system. In avitaminosis cases (Spring Anemia), a nettles cure refreshes the entire body.

From a certain age our the amount of iron in the body diminishes. A state of fatigue appears, even exhaustion. You feel old and don't have enough force to work. In this case fresh nettle containing iron can be used with great success. It helps us to overcome this critical point.

Nettle enables the physiological processes of erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes (platelets) formation. It makes the blood thinner and is the best depurative and hematopoietic treatment.

Anemia caused by iron deficiency.

Take 3-4 teaspoons of Nettle root powder per day, for 30-60 days. In addition, eat 4-6 teaspoons of nettle leaves per day, added as a spice in food.

Nettle leaves contain assimilable iron, while the root helps the body to better absorb the iron.

Prostate adenoma (BPH).
Nettle root has been used for the treatment of this disorder with extraordinary success. Studies done on patients in France, Germany, Poland, Iran testify the extraordinary effect of nettle in treating this disease.

Drink 750-1000 ml combined infusion from Nettle Root per day, on an empty stomach in the course of six months.

This remedy reduces nocturnal urinary frequency and gradually reduces prostate volume and normalize urination.

For those who suffer from any allergy, it is recommended to drink nettle tea for a longer period.

Take one teaspoon of nettle leaves and stems powder, 4 times daily, in courses of two months.

Multiple human studies showed that the administration of nettle leaves reduced frequency and intensity of allergic skin reactions, respiratory catarrh (inflamation of mucous membranes) and digestive disorders of allergic origin.

Clinical trials show that nettle leaves prevent and treat allergic rhinitis. It was noted a decrease of nasal mucous inflammation, a reduction of nasal congestion and respiratory catarrh, breathing ease, the disappearance of other symptoms caused by allergies such as itching, runny eyes, etc..

Take one teaspoon of leaves powder 4 times daily, for prophylaxis of allergic rhinitis, and one teaspoon, 6 times a day, for acute rhinitis. An internal cure with nettle lasts 90 days and can be resumed after 2-3 weeks of rest.

Rheumatism and Gout.
Drink nettle tea for its diuretic effect. Nettle leaves are used in kidney diseases, dissolving the sand and influencing favorably rheumatism and gout by eliminating uric acid and chlorides and bacteria that cause urinary tract infections and kidney stones.

Nettle leaves have anti-inflammatory effects in joints. Rheumatic patients who made internal treatment with this nettle have seen a sensitive reduction of pain and joint inflammation, after several weeks of administration.

Laboratory research showed that treatment with nettle inhibit production of substances involved in joint inflammation and pain.

Drink a cup of combined infusion of nettle grass (leaves and stems), 3 times daily on an empty stomach in the course of 40 days followed by 10-14 days of rest.

Cystitis, nephritis, pielo-nephritis
A team of german researchers has established the beneficial effect of nettle for reno-urinary infections.

Take 6 teaspoons of nettle grass tincture (leaf, stem and eventually blossom or seeds) per day (each teaspoon diluted in 100 ml of water), in the course of 30 days.

For those that do not support alcohol, tincture may be replaced by 900-1200 ml combined infusion per day.

Both preparations are diuretic, reduce inflammation of the kidneys and urinary tract, have mild antibacterial effect, diminish or eliminate the itching and pain on urination, favor rebuilding reno-urinary epithelium.

Excellent results are obtained by combining nettle with Juniper and Yarrow.

Decrease blood glucose level - Adjuvant in Type II Diabetes Mellitus

Clinical observations made by many doctors showed that nettle reduce glycemia (blood sugar). In addition, it stimulates diuresis and protects the heart and blood vessels.

In diabetes mellitus, nettle tea mixed with mulberry leaves, walnut, bean pods decreases blood sugar levels.

Drink 100 ml fresh juice per day made from nettle leaves, or 500 ml combined infusion daily from nettle root and leaves (mixed in equal proportion).

Bronchitis and asthma
It fluidifies bronchial secretions and stimulates their disposal by expectoration.

Allergic asthma
Histamines are chemicals released by cells of the immune system during allergic asthma. These chemicals cause the inflamation of the bronchial tree and lead to catarrh, disrupt breathing and cause suffocation crises.

Well, in nettle leaves we encounter the same histamines (with a modified chemical composition compared to histamines in the human body), which are secreted by the stinging hairs and cause the well known hives when we touch them.

Dr. Stanley W. Beyrle from Kansas Clinic of Traditional Medicine, United States, noticed that internal treatment with nettle leaves helps reduce the allergic sensitivity of the body, with extremely favorable effect on asthma.

The histamines in nettle make specific receptors in the body to be much less susceptible to stimuli from the air (dust, pollen, dust, etc..) which cause respiratory allergies.

Make a cure with powdered nettle leaves - 4-6 teaspoons per day, on an empty stomach in the course of 14 days, followed by 7 days of rest, after which treatment can be resumed.

Drink 100-150 ml fresh juice per day obtained from nettle leaves. Treatment lasts at least 21 days and has anti-inflammatory effects.

It will reduce and gradually eliminate bleeding, tone the venous wall preventing the extension and worsening of existing hemorrhoids.

Bleeding Hemorrhoids

  • 20 g Yarrow flowers
  • 60 g Glossy Buckthorn / Black Dogwood (Rhamnus frangula) bark.

Pour 2 cups of boiling water over 1 tablespoon of herb mixture. Let it steep for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink a cup at bedtime.

This tea helps toning the stomach as well.

Adjuvant to bleeding, severe metrorrhagia.
Drink 100-200 ml fresh juice from nettle leaves pe day.

Nettle is very rich in vitamin K, involved in blood clotting process. A massive intake of vitamin K helps stop internal or external bleeding very quickly.

Also, because of vitamin K, nettle is recommended in abundant and irregular menstruation and uterine bleeding after childbirth.

It is very interesting that dried nettle leaves (in which vitamin K is non-existant) does not have the same effect in accelerating blood clotting as fresh juice does.

In contrast, 1 l / 34 oz of combined infusion from nettle leaves dranked daily fluidifies the blood and is useful against thrombosis and thrombophlebitis..

Diarrhea, dysentery and mucosal digestive tract inflammation
Nettle has the role to decrease the microbial flora which caused the the diarrhea or dysentery.

Prepare a mix from equal proportion of leaves and nettle roots. Make a combined infusion from this mix and drink 3-5 cups a day in courses of 2-4 weeks.

If diarrhea produced a strong dehydration, then mix in every cup a top of a teaspoon of grainy salt.

Treatment is not very palatable, but it has astringent effects and slightly anti-bacterial, helps to rebalance the body hydration and to restore much faster the intestinal epithelium.

High Blood Pressure
Experimental medicine studies indicate that aqueous extracts of nettle root reduce and stabilize blood pressure and also reduce the heartbeat.

Drink 0.5 l / 16.9 oz combined infusion of nettle root per day, in courses of 1-2 months, followed by 2 weeks of rest.

Nettle root not only reduces blood pressure but also increases diuresis, and the amount of sodium removed from the body.

Fertility boost in both women and men
As a tonic for women, nettle is excellent throughout the menstrual cycle. This helps to:

  • Removing excess estrogen,
  • Water retention,
  • Improves premenstrual symptoms,
  • In abundant menstruation and dysfunctional bleeding of the uterus, because it contains large amounts of vitamin K,
  • Improves blood flow to the pelvic area,
  • Is a uterine tonic,
  • Due to the rich nutrient content, nettle is important in preparing the body for pregnancy (start using nettle at least three months before getting pregnant).

Low Testosterone, men effeminacy
A highly concentrated extract from the nettle root provides a unique mechanism for increasing levels of free testosterone, which results in amplification of masculine characteristics, physical strength and improvement of effort capacity.

Some studies sought to clarify some possible favorable action of nettle in cases of impotence and male infertility.

Mix nettle root and seeds powder (mix them in proportion of 4:1) and take 1 teaspoon 4 times a day, in course of one month, followed by 7-10 days of rest.

It has bactericidal effects limiting or removing the multiplication of bacteria.

It acts against intestinal worms.
