Ear Ache Remedies You Already Have In Your Kitchen

You probably have some rapid ear ache remedies already at hand.

The quickest and easiest way is to look in your own kitchen. You will surely find some ear ache home remedies that will relieve the pain.

Earaches or toothaches never make an appointment. They come suddenly at night or in weekends.

Don’t worry! Below is a list with The Top 5 Ear Ache Home Remedies you already have in your kitchen.

1. Garlic

The first thing to look in the kitchen for ear ache is Garlic (Allium sativum).

It is probably the most frequently tip I received over the years whenever I complained of ear pain. "Just put a put a clove of garlic in your ear!"

I am the greatest fan of garlic health benefits. I love to eat garlic, but I can't stand it in my ears as a earache remedy, or on my tooth as a toothache home remedy.

Garlic is the only home remedy for earache my mother needs when she has pain due to an ear infection. My sister-in-law assured me that she gets relief in 1-2 hours. Lucky them :)

The substance that makes garlic one of the most effective ear ache remedies is Allicin, a natural antibiotic. It is the main ingredient of herbal remedies that alleviate pain and cure infections.

Garlic clove recipe. You will find garlic remedies in many forms (cream, powder, oil). However, the quickest way to use it is this:

  • Peal a clove of garlic.
  • Crush it between your fingers just a little to let the juice flow. You can also scrape it to get to the juicy part.
  • Put the clove in your ear and keep it for an hour or two. If you feel a burning sensation and you can't stand it, remove the clove.

Garlic juice. Another way is to crush a garlic clove, place it in a handkerchief and squeeze a couple of drops in your ear. You will be asleep in no time.

Garlic oil. If you have garlic oil at hand, soak a cotton ball in garlic oil and place it in your ear. Alternatively, you can just put a couple of oil drops in the ear.

2. Onion

Onion (Allium ceppa) is rich in essential oils and can usually relieve earache pain very rapidly.

Onion juice

  • Steam or bake an onion with the skin on until it is soft.
  • Crush half of the cooked onion in a bowl to press out the juice of the onion.
  • Place a few drops of warm juice in the ear using an eyedropper.

Usually, this relieves the pain in a matter of minutes.

Some people don't cook the onion, and use raw juice instead. However, this may burn even more than the raw garlic. If you want to use this method, dilute the juice with a little olive oil before putting it in the ear.

Onion cataplasm. There are at least two ways to make an onion cataplasm for earache relief:

#1 Chop finely an onion. Put it in a handkerchief and tie it like a bag. Lie down on one side and hold the bag on the ear.

#2 Cook an onion (the same as for the onion juice recipe). Cut the cooked onion in half and place the cut surface against the outside of the ear and hold it there for 5-20 minutes. The onion must be warm, but cool enough to not burn the skin.

3. Leeks

Leeks (Allium porrum) belong, along with the onion and garlic, to the Alliaceae family. It makes both a yummy dinner and a good earache remedy.

Cook a few leek stalks in the oven. Squeeze some juice from the stalks, the same as in the cooked onion juice recipe. Use an eyedropper to put 2-3 drops of leeks' juice in the ear.

4. Horseradish

Another food-spice emergency remedy you may have in the kitchen, and also one of the "toughest" ear ache remedies with antibiotic properties, is Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana).

Put 1-2 drops of warm juice in the ear using an eyedropper. To warm it, place a small glass bottle with horseradish juice in a cup with hot water. Keep it for a couple of minutes until it reaches body temperature.

Remember, horseradish juice may burn your ear, just like onion juice, so be careful.

If you can't stand it in your ear, use horseradish in a salad. This way you will benefit from its antibacterial and antiviral properties. Because it is so powerful, it has the ability to drain the upper airway. And this is important for the ears too!

5. Basil

Basil (Ocinum basilicum) is an earache remedy with antibiotic and pain killer properties.

Basil juice. Put a few drops of juice from fresh herb in each ear.

Basil macerate. Take a sprig of basil, chop it finely and put it in a cup of cold water overnight. The next day strain and warm a teaspoon of macerate.

Put a few drops in your ear with a pipette. Repeat this procedure until the inflammation and pain is gone.

Basil essential oil is much stronger than fresh juice. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. The essential oil penetrates quickly the auditory tissues and can be more effective than antibiotics.

It is important that you ask your doctor's advice before using it. Only use quality essential oils, preferably organic.

Don't forget that the ear is a very sensitive organ. You must care it properly; otherwise ear infections can lead to more serious problems like chronic Otitis media, eczema or hearing loss.
